Donald Fauntleroy Duck is an American cartoon character from The Walt Disney Company. Donald is a white anthropomorphic duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He usually wears a sailor shirt, cap, and a red bow tie, but no trousers. 

Donald Duck received his star on August 9, 2004.

Donald's most famous personality trait is his easily provoked and explosive temper. Donald Duck has been officially honored as the third most popular cartoon character of all time with Bugs Bunny of Warner Brothers Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies at number two and fellow Disney creation Mickey Mouse who is number one. The Simpsons is an American animated television series created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical parody of a working-class American lifestyle epitomized by its eponymous family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

The show is set in the fictional city of Springfield, and lampoons American culture, society, television and many aspects of the human condition.

The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a pitch for a series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. (How many people remember Jim Henson's Muppets being on Saturday Night Live?)

After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the first Fox series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989-1990).

Since its debut on December 17, 1989 the show has broadcast 464 episodes and the twenty-first season finished airing on May 23, 2010. The Simpsons Movie, a feature-length film, was released in theaters worldwide on July 26 and 27, 2007, and grossed US$527 million worldwide.

On January 14, 2000 the Simpson family was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shrek is a 2001 American animated comedy film directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson and starring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow.

Loosely based on William Steig's 1990 fairy tale picture book Shrek!, the film was produced by DreamWorks Animation.

Shrek was the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, a category introduced in 2001. It was released on VHS and DVD on November 2, 2001.

The film stars Mike Myers as an ogre named Shrek. Shrek also features Cameron Diaz as the beautiful but very down-to-earth and feisty Princess Fiona, Eddie Murphy as the talkative Donkey and John Lithgow as the villain Lord Farquaad.

A North American Tour of Shrek, The Musical opened July 25, 2010 in Chicago. The show ran on Broadway from 2008-2010.



May 20, 2010 Shrek got his star on the Walk of Fame, just one day before the release of Shrek Forever After. Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) and Mike Myers appeared.

was born in Ireland. She's known for standout performances in famous swashbuckling films with actors such as Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power and Charles Laughton. 

She starred in Miracle on 34th Street, How Green Was My Valley, Jamaica Inn. Too many fine films to count. In 1991 she appeared in Only the Lonely with John Candy.

A few magazine articles dated 1941-1956 either described and/or included photographs of Miss O'Hara's home. She was married to Will Price 1941-1953. He was from Mississippi. Their daughter, Bronwyn was born in 1944 and I believe that the family moved at least once during this time period. She has a fun, dynamic personality and she updated her decor when she pleased.

Her home wasn't midcentury modern with retro furniture -- her homes were actually mid-century. These stars can give you ideas for your home.

In 1941, she talks about furnishing a home as a new bride, mentioning an assortment of possible creative Irish gifts of the era. "Every Irish bride starts out with twelve apostle spoons one each having a figure of an apostle on its handle. At a high tea you put a spoon in each saucer. But you can't get them over here."

Because it got cold at night in California, they had their open porch aka their lanai, enclosed with glass and then furnished. Don't let space go unused or rarely used.

"One day I was rummaging around the storage basement and I came across four solid bedposts and a needlepoint bench that Will has picked up in a Mississippi antique shop. My first impulse was to use them with their mahogany finish. But Will didn't like it, so I had them painted green!" (1949)

Film art directors and set designers would probably tell you that they take their lead actors into consideration when staging the sets.

A 1956 article about the now-single O'Hara shows a couple of photos of her bedroom. The bed is different but similar. The room appears to be a brighter shade of green but there's no way to tell considering how old photos, scans and then reproductions on different screens can be misleading.

In 1948, Jeanette MacDonald and husband, Gene Raymond had a green living room. McDonald was also known for her red hair.

 Don't skip a party because you think you might want to leave early! Devise a clever get-away plan. Actor Ned Sparks used his bulldog, Betsy as an excuse when he wanted to take off from a dull party, or even if he wanted to refuse the invitation altogether. 

"Oh I don't know what Betsy will think of me I was out last night," Ned will say when he wants to decline an invitation. Or when he wants to leave a party early he will explain, "Don't know what Betsy will say to me, I'm so late!" Not everyone knew just who Betsy was, but it didn't seem to matter.

Before we consider hair, make-up or clothes "here is a personality point worth more than a big bouquet of orchids or an ermine wrap. This is the business of getting yourself into a party mood. Work up the spirit of expectancy. 

"Deliberately plan to enjoy yourself, no matter what and see that others enjoy themselves. This is practically a failure proof plan for a lovely evening. Though you may secretly long to walk off with the handsomest man of the evening and be the whole pivot of attention submerge it in the idea of a good time for all and see what happens."

One article proclaimed, "If you don't have a good time it's your own fault. Join in games even if you know you're a dub at them and laugh at your own mistakes but don't make any more than you can help. If it's an informal party offer to help your hostess serve if you know her well, but don't use it as an excuse to show off your housewifely skill to prospective husbands. Men see through that sort of thing."

It was on a season of The Next Food Network Star, that I first heard someone use the term, resting bitch face.  
 
It's along the same lines of the old standby, "If you're having such a good time why don't you tell your face?"

A 1930s article by Joan Crawford talked about facial manners, how to be aware of how our expressions and the way dwelling on something can be bad in more ways than one.


Joan Crawford was very conscientious in studying her own face on the screen. Too often we rely on make-up to accent our faces and make them come alive. ... Most bad facial manners are unconscious of course.

"I will wager that if you will glance at your face in any passing mirror you will hurriedly change your expression to a pleasanter one! 

"Here are the commonest bad facial manners. Frowning, squinting, screwing up any part of the face are not only ugly in themselves but leave unlovely lines in their wake. Sulking is bad manners, social as well as facial and will spoil the loveliest face.

"Pouting distorts the mouth.  Watch for these things yourself in your mirror. Don't copy the little grimaces of your friends. .... 

"Be careful of the thoughts you think. As sure as you're alive they will be written on your face. And you can't cheat at this. Your social manners may be perfect. You may say pleasant things to your hostess while thinking what a dull time you had. But you cannot think hard, cross thoughts over a long period of time and not keep a record of them in your face."

"Curl the ends of your hair and pile them high on your head for one of those pre-war coiffures.

"Pin those high-piled curls in place with springy bobby pins, choose some that will hold their shape and are practically invisible once they're in place.

"If you wear your hair nice and straight like Bette Davis with the ends only slightly fluffed have you ever tried eau du Cologne to make them curl? Bette finds it works beautifully when sprayed on. 

"Ida Lupino does a patch-up job on unruly curls by setting her hair with cologne. She dampens her hair with cologne and rolls it up into a pin curl. It will dry in a few moments.

If you sew cleverly, you can make a gown that might have come straight from a Hollywood designer then you don't need any advice about party clothes. But cheap materials and amateur dressmaking show up more quickly in formal clothes than in everyday garments. ... Wear something appropriate to the event and something that represents you.

We see Laura La Plante, Corliss Palmer, Edna Murphy, Jeanette Loff, Barbara Bedford. The film ends with Ruth Elder who was an actress and a pilot. They even show her with her airplane.

Jeanette Loff worked with actors the likes of Rod La Rocque and James Parrott. In the silent film Love Over Night (1928), she costarred with Richard Tucker, the first official member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Loff was only 35 when she died in 1942.

Edna Murphy was voted "Most Photographed Movie Star of 1925" by ScreenLand Magazine. If that was today, Edna would be featured by entertainment TV shows and seen on magazine covers at every store checkout 
stand in the country.

Ruth Elder "was a movie actress and aviation adventurer. Her first fifteen minutes of fame came at a propitious time in 1927 just five months after Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. She and Register pilot George Haldeman made an attempt to cross the Atlantic together in a yellow Stinson Detroiter named "The American Girl" (NC1384, not a Register airplane)." ....

In 1929, Ruth Elder was a competitor in what was known as the Powder Puff Derby. "In the shadow of the unsuccessful trans-Atlantic effort, Ruth kept her chin up and entered the first Women's Air Derby.

In May, 1954, Laura LaPlante (then Mrs. Asher) had retired from show business. She appeared on the show, You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx. [Shhhh. The secret word was House.]

Corliss Palmer was in films with Walter Pidgeon, June Collyer, Noah Beery, Jason Robards Sr.,Richard Barthemless and Thelma Todd, Alphonse Martell and even famous Strongheart the Dog. She is known for Leo McCarey's 1926 Bromo and Juliet which also featured Charley Chase and Oliver Hardy. 

By the way, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy had both appeared in the same film before but not worked together. They would not make a film as a double act until Putting Pants on Philip in 1927.

Barbara Beford's birth name was Violet Rose.  On the British comedy, Keeping Up Appearances, Hyacinth Bucket has sisters named Violet and Rose (and Daisy). 

Barbara Bedford appeared in The Last of the Mohicans (1920) and a Tod Browning movie, Man Under Cover with Herbert Rawlinson, George Hernandez and William Courtright. She made The Big Punch with Buck Jones in 1921. Her 1922 silent film The Power of Love is said to be the very first 3D feature film worldwide. The flat or 2D version was screened with the title, Forbidden Lover.
