1930s Fan Girls chase Clark Gable

Fangirls in the 1930s out for Gable

Clark Gable's Offer, circa 1934: "If the person who found my wrist watch lost during my
They ripped off his buttons
[Even his
mustache is gone]
tour will return it to me I will be happy not only to send that person a duplicate of the watch but I will also pay a cash reward of fifty dollars."

"The watch was a gift from my wife therefore it has much sentimental value to me. If the finder, or taker, will return it to me, I will be happy not only to send that person a duplicate of the watch but I will also pay a cash reward of fifty dollars and ask no questions."
Below are four Gable / Fan incidents.

The watch was white-gold and attaches to the wrist by means of a white-gold link chain. On its back were two initials C.G. Do you know who has the watch? If you do be sure and explain Clark's reward offer.

He was pawed, his possessions pilfered. Even those signature ears of his weren't safe from the pecking of adoring Clark Gable fans. Here are some movie magazine tales. What happens when fans meet their heroes, Mr. Gable's encounters with some adoring fans back in the golden days of Hollywood.

These fans were after autographs and the kinds of movie memorabilia that's one of a kind, movie star memorabilia, maybe celebrity news an experience to share.  Was there any talk of stalkers in the 1930s? A character in the Jean Harlow film Bombshell suggests that they did have obsessed fans even then.

These girls may have been our mothers or our grandmothers, though I'm sure
Clark Gable color photo
they weren't really. :-) He was married to Maria Franklin Gable, her nickname was Ria, when most of these events were going on.

What's your favorite Gable movie?

In the 1920s when Rudolph Valentino made his way cross country hundreds of thousands of frantic females literally shed their dignity and honor to get close to Valentino to see him to touch him to cling to him.

In the early 1930s, Clark Gable went from New York to Hollywood with a couple of stops in between. He had some pleasant, not-so-pleasant and even dangerous experiences with fans.

Note in a November 2014 Bonhams - TCM Turner Classic Movies auction the wedding ring given to Clark Gable by Carole Lombard was auctioned off for $40,000.

A toll of Gable's losses on his short trip included the following articles:

27 silk handkerchiefs
33 buttons torn from his clothes
1 complete sleeve of a dress-shirt
1 lapel from the coat of a business suit
1 pair of bedroom slippers
1 top half of a pair of silk pajamas
And that one wrist watch

The girl nipped one of Gable's ears with her teeth....
In Baltimore a girl rented the hotel room adjoining the suite occupied by Clark, Mrs. Gable and a constant guard who rarely left the actor's side. Beginning early one evening the girl knocked at the door of the Gable rooms. She was answered by the guard who politely but firmly told her that Clark was not in.

At intervals of about one hour the girl continued to knock but each time she was greeted by the vigilant guard. Perhaps the girl thought that the guard would eventually go elsewhere in the hotel because she kept calling and knocking.

Finally about two o'clock in the morning the guard informed her, "Beg pardon Miss, but I remain in these quarters all the time. No need for you to knock on the door I'll always answer you." Whereupon the girl thrust out her tongue and uttered that rasping noise known as the bird

The following morning as Gable stepped alone into the elevator to go downstairs for breakfast this same girl stepped in behind him. Barely were the doors of the elevator closed before she threw her arms around Clark and began to rain kisses upon his cheek and neck. When he attempted to turn away from her, the excited girl rudely (such, such manners!) proceeded to nip one of his ears with her teeth.

In the midst of this latter display the elevator reached the lobby and the doors were opened. A crowded lobby of people were treated to a show that caused Gable to break away from the girl roughly and dash for the front doorway. As for the brash young lady she only grinned and pocketed a button from her idol's coat. Gable never returned to that hotel.

1939 Premiere Gone with the Wind
Gable and Lombard, Olivie de Havilland, Vivien Leigh are all there, and a few fans show up
. 2014 marks the 75th anniversary of Gone with the Wind. At the time these articles came out, that film was several years in the future.

Stroking Gable's cheek while smiling tenderly at him....
A chambermaid in another hotel owes the fact that she still holds her job to the good sportsmanship of both Clark and his wife. To designate the hotel or even the city might lead to the maid's identification, therefore such information must be withheld. At any rate the Gable suite usually consisted of a living room and two bedrooms one of which was occupied by Mrs. Gable and the other by Clark.

This arrangement was of necessity because often Mrs. Gable would go to the hotels and retire early. Gable returning later from theatres would occupy the other bedroom rather than awaken his wife with the noise of his homecoming. Perhaps the chambermaid did not understand this arrangement.

At any rate, the first morning of Clark's stay at this particular hotel, the maid entered the rooms, and went almost at once to the bedroom where Gable was sleeping. The actor was awakened with a start and discovered the woman standing beside the bed. She had been stroking Gable's cheek while smiling tenderly down at him.

Perhaps more roughly than he should have spoken he snapped, "What's the idea?"

And with that the maid fairly burst into tears. She confessed that she'd long been in love with Gable on the screen. When she had learned that she was to clean his rooms her heart had overflowed. She wanted only to touch him to be close to him. That was what she had dreamed of since seeing his first picture.

At that moment Mrs. Gable came to the door. Thanks to her sense of humor she laughed heartily at the sight of her husband sitting bolt upright in bed with the covers drawn close around him while the husky chambermaid poured out her tale of love for him!

The maid was terrified. She opened her mouth to beg for forgiveness but before she could speak, Mrs. Gable interrupted. With the sense of humor that is typical of the woman Clark married, she told the maid to go about her duties but the next time be sure and pick a man whose wife is not so close by.

He screeched around the corner on two wheels at 70 miles an hour...

We were driving down a busy boulevard in Los Angeles, Clark and I in his car. Two girls spotted Gable and chased him. They caught up, crowded his car over toward the curb. All of a sudden I almost went through the seat.

Clark gunned his car forward like a jackrabbit, twisted it straight for two tall buildings. Luckily an alley was in between. I didn't know that. Clark did. We screeched around the corner on two wheels at 70 miles an hour.

"What are you trying to do?" I gasped when I got back  my breath. "Kill me?!"

"Sorry," Clark said when it was safe to slow down."What if those kids had bumped me or I'd bumped them? An accident, maybe somebody hurt or killed. Whose fault? Clark Gable's. When you're in pictures, you're on the spot. That was trouble," said Clark, "so me, I just got out of the way!" -- A 1948 Modern Screen reporter describing a very memorable car ride.

A tearing noise, then "Autograph this!" She cried....
One daring girl managed to sneak backstage at the theatre in Baltimore. She made her way unseen into Clark's dressing room. When Gable completed his turn behind the footlights. he found the girl awaiting his return. He had closed the door behind him when he saw her for the first time. He stopped short and demanded, "What are you doing here?"

She asked stammeringly, "Will -- will you autograph something for me, please, Mr. Gable?"

"Gladly," Clark answered believing this the easiest way to dismiss her without any fuss.

"Autograph this!" She cried. With that there was a quick tearing noise, and the girl brought into view the brassiere she had been wearing.

Stern-lipped Gable threw open the door that opened his dressing room out on the back stage runway. That was for protection. Then he seized a sheet of writing paper from his make up case, scribbled a hasty autograph and gave it to the girl.

Before she quite realized how she got there, the girl was outside the theatre, but clamped in one had was her autograph in the other hand the brassiere without the Gable signature.

I don't know if he ever got that watch back. Hope he did. Maybe Cary Grant might have given him one inscribed CG? I hear the two actors did silly things like that around holiday-time.

The Gable assessment....

"Our country is famous for its hero worship. I think the public is partially hypnotized by its very willingness to idolize. Even when fans see the stars in person and have that opportunity to discover that we are just human beings like themselves they continue right on with their unbelievable worship."

Have you ever met a big star who you admire? How did you react?

Who inherits your affiliate marketing pay and online sales earnings

When our Affiliate Marketing work outlives us
What happens to our online income after we die?

into the content on your blog or other web site? Are you an Amazon Associate or use Google AdSense?

Does the site you're working with allow you to name a beneficiary for the funds you earn in the case of your death?

How would they handle the transfer of funds from one account to another? Different sites have different policies and their policies tend to change.

This isn't something people want to be thinking about at the time of someone's death. It's a loving and selfless thing for us to do something now so they'll know what to do.

If there's a significant lag time, your account can go dormant and your account could begin being penalized. It could be closed and your income could be lost altogether.

The first thing to do is let someone know that you're working online. Make note of your passwords and any other pertinent log on information.

You probably don't want your beneficiaries to know this information now but arrange it so they'll receive it when you die. Don't forget intermediary or money management sites such as PayPal.

One thing I noticed when looking for information about this topic was emails from family members of a person who'd suddenly died, had an accident or taken ill. These weren't necessarily elderly people.

They may not have had a really big online income that made them think in advance to create special arrangements.. Don't assume you have a lot of time to get this in order.

If you have an Etsy, Amazon or eBay store, who will know how to find, package and ship products when they're ordered? Someone will need access to that email account if the shop is to stay active. Maybe you should have instructions that they at least should put your shop on vacation for a while? You could leave instructions to do this especially if you're injured or sick and expect to get back to work.

Here is some information I've found from a few online companies. Some of the info was found on their sites, some from personal emails. Always double check for yourself when you have the need. It can be a starting point.

Think about the different kinds of residual income you might have from an online site. Writing on Yahoo,  Wizzley, etc.? Selling on a site such as Zazzle, Etsy, eBay or ArtFire?

Many of these online pages overlap. Amazon.com allows us to be affiliates and to sell items.

On Yahoo, we can write for profit, have our email and Yahoo owns the photo-sharing site, Flckr.

There are big affiliate networks such as ShareASale and Commission Junction (CJ). Some of us work directly with merchants, big ones like Amazon or smaller ones. They pay through direct deposit or check.

This article really isn't about all the other online parts of our lives.  People have been talking about digital media and what happens to our iTunes library and our Kindle eBook libraries. I've heard that we should think of our movies and MP3s as if we're just leasing them instead of owning them even though we paid for them.

Facebook will no longer limit who can view the accounts of its deceased members. Until now, Facebook would change the privacy settings on a deceased person's account — known as a memorial account — so that only their friends could view the page. But going forward, Facebook will leave privacy settings as the account's owner had set them, so anyone who could view their account while they were living will be able to view their memorial account as well.

George Bailey: Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair... am I talking too much?
-- Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, It's a Wonderful Life 1946

Project Gemini was the second human spaceflight program of NASA

Crew: Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Command Pilot
John W. Young, Pilot
Back-up Crew: Schirra, Stafford

On March 23, 1965, the spacecraft, nicknamed Molly Brown, performed the seventh manned US spaceflight, and the 17th manned spaceflight overall (including X-15 flights over 100 kilometers).

It was also the final manned flight controlled from Cape Canaveral, Florida before mission control functions were shifted to the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas.

Project Gemini was conducted between projects Mercury and Apollo, with ten manned flights occurring in 1965 and 1966

Gemini 3 was the first manned mission in NASA's Gemini program, the second American manned space program

Grissom was at the time the first person to fly in space twice. Sadly, Project Gemini would be his last flight. He was killed in the tragic Apollo 1 fire on January 27, 1967.

The Gemini 3 capsule was unofficially dubbed Molly Brown in reference to the Unsinkable Molly Brown of Titanic fame.

Grissom's capsule sank and was lost during his first space flight, Mercury MR-4, thus precipitating this Molly Brown nickname.

Considering napkins for your party, for your home?

Here's another interesting historical tidbit regarding the Project Gemini Mission:

A corned beef sandwich had been smuggled on board the spacecraft. Grissom reportedly only took a few bites for fear of the potential safety risk that would be caused by any crumbs floating around the cabin.

A sandwich was not the normal type of space food prepared for the astronauts!

Giants Decorations Celebrate the SF Giants and NY Giants this Holiday

Bring your team home for the holidays

2012 San Francisco
Baseball X-mas Ornament
Check for 2014
Ornaments
Giants fans have a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Whether you're a fan of the NY Giants football team or the SF Giants baseball team, you and your team were winners in 2012! Look for your teams. 2012-2015 and beyond.

The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI this past February, defeating the New England Patriots.

The San Francisco Giants won the 2014 World Series!! They swept the 2012 World Series in Orange October, defeating the Detroit Tigers in four games.

Maybe you want to decorate your tree with a few Giants ornaments or devote a whole tree to the team. You can customize them, create photo ornaments.

Were you at the big game? Add pictures of yourself and your family! Add text, give the ornaments as favors and gifts. Several of the cards and even clothing items allow you to personalize. Just "Customize it."

NFL New York Giants 2012 Super Bowl XLVI Championship Ornament

This is chrome-plated showing the two teams' helmets, the final score and the date of the game. This ornament is 6 1/2 inches tall. Get the trophy on your tree.

Having unusual colors, those other than the typical red, green, gold and silver are really refreshing at holiday-time and they show your personality, your true interests and style.

Many of the ornaments are not overtly holiday themed at all. Keep them out all year. They come in team colors. Keep them out for luck, as mementos, for decor in the man cave or living room.

Do you have more than one tree? Different decor for different rooms in the house? A sports themed tree would be fun for a game room or den where family and friends gather to watch the games.

Having an ornament making party before the holidays is a fun bonding experience and a good way to put some relaxing time in between all those things we feel like we have to do or should be doing. Use the team colors for something subtle or go all-out with the team mascot, the logo, football or baseball ornaments, ticket stubs!

Give the ornaments as favors or awards at holiday parties. We've heard of their being used at place settings around a table as favors. Personalize them with someone's name or favorite team?

Homemade Halloween Costumes 5 TV Dads

Nothing better than DIY Halloween costumes. Here are five creative costumes, five famous TV fathers where a guy can virtually shop his closet. Add a few accessories and you're a hit! There's a lawman, congressman, farmer, earthquake survivor and one more daddy. Guesses?

1) Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) analyzes blood spatter patterns for the Miami Metro Police Department. He's married to Rita and they have a young son named Harrison. He also has an avocation as a serial killer serial killer.

The TV show Dexter has run on Showtime from 2006 to the present. A drop dead simple costume would be to add a yellow crime tape Do Not Cross neck tie to your best suit as seen in the photo above.Talk about cheap Halloween costumes...

The more traditional Dexter costume might be his after-hours working clothes. Do you have a green thermal shirt? The American Apparel Thermal Long Sleeve Henley works for both genders. A black vinyl apron and black tactical duty gloves - police gloves is what he uses. Dexter also wears a safety mask face shield.

Your Halloween version of Dexter may be able to use the Bloody Cleaver from the new Walking Dead costume set.

2) Burton "Burt" Hummel is married to Carole Hudson. He's the father of Kurt Hummel and the stepfather of Finn Hudson. He is a United States Congressman as well as being a mechanic. Burt is also a sports fan.

He is notable for supporting his son, Kurt when he came out as being gay on the show, Glee.

Burt is a perfect last minute Halloween costume. Lots of guys I know have a Burt Hummel costume in their closets right now!

Get yourself a good flannel shirt and a good warm vest jacket. If you don't already have one of these, your brother or dad might have one. The baseball cap is up to you. The Choir Here Comes Treble! embroidered hat is just one of the hats can be customized with the name of your choir, group or no name at all.

For premade outfits, there's the Cheerios costume from Glee, Sue and other Glee costumes.

One of the best ideas for how to make a Halloween costume is looking at what you have, maybe stopping by the local thrift store then adding a couple of things to that. Start off with a unique idea.

Glee Burt Hummel Fabric Wall Scroll Poster

Get a Glee DVD: such as the Season 1 Giftset.

3) Hershel Greene is a veterinarian who owns a farm in Georgia. His daughters are Beth and Maggie. When he married his second wife, Annette, he became step-father to Shawn. The Walking Dead has been on AMC since 2010.

Hershel, played by Scott Wilson, and a group of the townspeople are dealing with a world now dominated by walkers, a race of zombies. If you're bitten by one of the undead, you turn. Fall 2013 ends with a bang for Hershel.

** Scott Wilson was guest judge on the SyFy Channel's makeup challenge show Face Off, an episode called Off With Their Heads. It originally aired in early October 2014.

Better watch out. Unfortunately this is what happened to Annette and Shawn.

Long story short, he put them in the barn. He barricaded folks in his barn and ended up with a barn full of Walkers. That wasn't what he'd intended.

Sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes has to deal with the walkers. Hershel is another shop your closet costume. A shirt that has a pale color or simple pattern, the undershirt and  suspenders. Hershel has a receding hairline, white hair, eyebrows, you can wear a fake moustache and beard. Depending on when you see him he may have less facial hair.

Comb your hair back or try a wig like the Wig Comb Over. (*Don't forget that items like fake mustaches usually require spirit gum theatrical glue & remover or toupee tape and those tend to be sold separately. Choose the amount and type that you want.)

4) Rick Marshall, his son Will and his young daughter Holly, were rafting on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon when they were caught in "the greatest earthquake ever known." Their raft tumbled down a waterfall and into a time doorway into The Land of the Lost.

The show ran on NBC from 1974 to 1977. Rick Marshall wears what looks like a familiar khaki work uniform. If you don't have dark hair yourself, you could wear the famous 70s TV Mike/Greg Brady Bunch Man-Perm Curly Brown Wig

Besides Rick Marshall and Mike Brady, the wig is also ideal for portraying the androgynous character Pat, from Saturday Night Live. [Page being updated relocated live link will be announced]

The universe in which they land is inhabited by dinosaurs, a primate-type people called Pakuni and aggressive humanoid/lizard creatures called the Sleestak, costumes and masks are available. There are several Land of the Lost Costumes you can make.

The Dickies men's work pants and complementary Dickies Long Sleeve Work Shirt come in multiple colors besides the classic khaki, and they both get high ratings from customers. A lot of men already have Dickies pants and work shirts and know their quality.

Add an orange backpack or modernize the character with an orange or dinosaur-themed messenger or computer commuter bag. The show is part of the fantastic worlds of Sid and Marty Krofft. Get Land of the Lost on DVD.

In 2009, Will Ferrell portrayed Rick Marshall in a feature film version of Land of the Lost.

This was a time travel story at its core. Due to financial negotiations, Spencer Milligan left the show at the start of Season Three.  His character Rick Marshall was replaced by his brother, Jack Marshall.

Early on in that season, they show Rick Marshall being transported out of the Land of the Lost through a time doorway. Yet the rest of the family remains lost.  Don't know what the castaways on Gilligan's Island would say about that situation.

5) Jackson Galaxy, a.k.a. Cat Daddy is a cat behaviorist on Animal Planet's My Cat from Hell. There are no bad cats, he reminds us, some are just misunderstood. Our pets, our cats are family members, too.

Since we are making a Jackson Galaxy costume version of his overall look, here are some of his vital statistics. Jackson stands 6-foot-5, this makes him taller than Stephen Fry but still not quite as tall as Penn Jillette.

He has a shaved head, wears glasses and ear hoops, has a long goatee, sideburns and full tattoo sleeves on both arms. The Bundle Monster 10pc fake tattoo sleeves - designs incl. Tribal, Dragon, Skull is just one of the sets you'll find.

He drives a cool convertible and wears cool jewelry. His fashion sense leans toward vintage inspired bowling shirts such as Vito's Loan Company Classic Black & White Bowling Shirt Jackson also has a T-Shirt that reads, Real Men Love Cats.

At night he plays guitar in a rock band. During the day, he carries a special guitar case in which he carries the tools of his cat trade, calming potions and cat toys, things like that. This famous guitar case has cat eyes painted on it.

Friends or family dressing up as cats? Perfect couples costume or complement to the costume of Jackson Galaxy is a cat costume. The leopard or tiger costume would work just as well

For the bald wig with the best customer comments and ratings, it's the Graftobian Professional Bald Cap Kit.

Whether you want to be Jackson Galaxy, Tom Colicchio from Top Chef or Iron Chef Michael Symon, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Howie Mandell, LL Cool J, Patrick Stewart / Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dr. Evil / Mini Me, Blue Man Group or even Humpty Dumpty, the comments from customers who've bought bald caps are clear.

It's best to invest a little more money and more time to put it on. *Read the directions before and while you're putting it on.  Do you need to buy anything that doesn't come with it? Spirit gum and remover? This will get you the really great look you're after. If you want something faster that are more obvious, there are lots of choices out there.

Jackson Galaxy works for many animal and cat-specific charities and has a new book out, Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love and Coming Clean. It's available in hardcover, audio and kindle eReader versions.

A mustache and goatee set can be added if you don't already sport them. Don't forget to be sure they come with spirit gum and remover.

If you think people will be slow in getting who you are, maybe help them along with adding a kitty or two to your look! Jackson doesn't usually have cats and kittens hanging all over him, but you can take some creative license with your costume.

I like the Webkinz Kinz Klip Siamese Cat (Kinz Klip only) it clips on and gets very good ratings from customers. There are other breeds and types of kitties, too. The BOO Mini clip-on is small and supposedly a naughty cat. Talk about your magnetic personality.

The fact that one of them is a Siamese is right on. Our Siamese cats want to jump up and ride on our shoulders. You might clip kitties like this to your belt loops? Say, Oh, Behave?!
