10 Famous TV Dads: Paul Teutul Sr. Costume Ideas

Paul Teutul Sr. is best known for appearing on the reality show American Chopper with his sons, Paul Teutul, Jr. and Michael Teutul. He is Number four on our list of Dads and the first Reality Show father, someone who portrays himself, so to speak, on television.

The show centered around the the dynamics of the family relationships as they ran their business, Orange County Choppers, OCC, a custom motorcycle manufacturer founded by Paul Teutul, Sr. and Paul Teutul, Jr. in 1999.

As with many of the other TV dads on this list, to get the Paul Sr. look you could add the attitude and voice as much as any costume. Choose a creative Halloween costume and have the benefit of being able to wear the clothes after Halloween!

The Number 3 Famous TV Dad on the list is George Jetson from The Jetsons, the first cartoon dad on the list. There are so many famous television fathers. People have suggested a lot of them, some of them loved, some of them not particularly loved, but memorable just the same. :-)

This is a list of fathers on TV who are not only memorable but costume-worthy. Their look has to be recognizable. The Jetsons premiered on September 23, 1962 going through March of 1963. The show actually ran twice.  

We met the Jetsons 50 years ago this as of 2012!

The second run was September 16, 1985 – November 12, 1987. We can celebrate a big Jetsons anniversary in September since both of the premieres were this month and 2012 is their 50th anniversary! He has not aged a bit, lucky guy. I doubt he's had anything done. Must be that space air...

The Jetsons was a space tv show, around the same time as programs like Lost in Space, My Favorite Martian and I Dream of Jeannie, where Major Anthony Nelson was an astronaut. At the time, no one had ever heard of Star Wars or Buzz Lightyear. 

The American space program was big news, as was space exploration. In 1962, the year The Jetsons premiered, John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth aboard the Atlas rocket, the Friendship 7. Space themed toys were also the newest rage for kids. 

From what I can tell by research (and memory) color television was becoming more commonplace in the US in the mid- and late 1960s. Do you remember seeing the Jetson family in black and white?

10 Famous TV Dads: Gomez Addams : Costume Ideas

He's dashing and rich, a devoted husband and father. Gomez Addams is the patriarch of a family that, while maybe creepy and kooky, has been a television hit since its debut September 18, 1964. Happy Anniversary to The Addams Family!

This costume, whether alone, half of a gorgeous couples costume with the glorious Morticia Addams, or part of a knock-out group costume, will please the crowd.

Include their children, Pugsley and Wednesday Addams, Grandma and Uncle Fester. Lurch (was he a Zombie or what?) & Cousin Itt. Don't forget Thing.

Based primarily on the television program, Gomez was a businessman, a billionaire in fact.  He is an acrobat, juggler, knife-thrower, cigar smoker and a lawyer.

According to Wikipedia, Charles Addams worked with John Astin on development of the character. There wasn't a first name. "When the 1964 television series The Addams Family was being developed, Charles Addams suggested naming the character either Repelli or Gomez. Addams left the final choice up to portrayer, John Astin, who chose Gomez."

These days lots of the iconic costumes, Snow White for instance, come in dark or goth versions, especially once you hit the tween sizes and older. Not so with Addams Family costumes! The members of this family were lovers not fighters and yet, they were goth all over from the start. ;-)

Number One is Mayberry's own Sheriff Andy Taylor. Maybe you're going out to a Halloween party, staying home to greet trick or treaters or you're going out trick or treating with your family and friends. You may want to be part of a group costume. Iconic tv costumes are always a hit.

The annual Mayberry Days 2013 are being held September 26-29 in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Visit the festival for loads of fun inspired by the popular tv show! Guests include actors who appeared on the program. Betty Lynn, who played Thelma Lou, is expected to appear.

There are opportunities to dress like the famous and beloved characters we remember. The Ernest Tee Golf Tournament. This year is bound to be a lot of fun and particularly poignant. If you can't go to Mount Airy, why not have your own Mayberry Days wherever you are?
