I believe that his girlfriend, Agent 99, had a ladies version of a shoe phone. His boss, the Chief had a shoe phone or a series of them.
At least once he was seen talking on a golf shoe that had been converted into a shoe phone. Did these people ever get dirty using their shoe phones? I guess they'd gone through Shoe Phone Training. There are some features on our so called smart phones that we still can't figure out!

Invisible Paris tells a tale of another type of killer shoes. Early in the twentieth century, if a gentleman in Paris needed his shoes repaired, his cobbler might have used a substance called aniline in the repair. Unfortunately, aniline is also referred to as a 'poison dangereux.'
The fumes from the chemical was making wearers of some of these repaired shoes violently ill. Luckily, when a man was brought to the hospital, the doctor immediately recognized the signs of aniline poisoning. The guilty party was his shoes!
Aniline is recognized as a toxic substance by the CDC in Atlanta.
